Hidden Colours
The world around us is a glorious and brilliant spectacle! It is full of colour and shape, and contrast between light and dark.. and we all see it a little differently.
In any scene there are the colours that we observe with our eyes, the same ones that are seen through the lens of a camera. And then there are the colours that are hidden from immediate view, those that exist outside the realm of visual experience, that jump to life to those who have a paintbrush in hand to capture them.
These are the colours seen by our artistic imaginations, and you will find them in all of Barry’s artworks. They are his personal interpretations of the tactile world, a witness to his unique and uncompromising ability to see that which isn’t quite there.Barry takes an image – whether scene or portrait or object – and is able to draw from it hints of colour and light that are hidden from a purely realistic view.
This is how you might find a streak of purple in the trunk of a tree, or a sky that consists entirely of orange hues, or fragments of reds and greens and blues immersed in the shimmering reflection of a mountain stream.
These are the colours of the natural world through the eyes of the artist in all of us, the hidden colours that each one of us can find, if only we take the time to look for them.
